Basil Al-Rawi is a visual artist working with photography, moving images, and simulation, creating works concerned with the landscapes of memory, identity, politics, and socio-economic traumas. Construction, staging and intervention are central to his process; photographs are staged, images subtly altered, and virtual environments created. He has exhibited at IMMA, Rua Red, RHA, The Photographers Gallery and the Institute of International Visual Arts amongst others.  In 2019 he received a scholarship from The Glasgow School of Art and SGSAH to pursue PhD research at the School of Simulation and Visualisation. His practice-based project is concerned with utilising archive photographs, audio-visual oral histories, and Virtual Reality to explore the reconstruction of vernacular photographic moments and associated memories from Iraqi Diaspora.
